Learn to Speak Minion Language: Malaysian Edition

Written by Kelvin on 28 Jun 2026

The Minion Language Origin: How is it Created?

Listening to the Minion language for the first time is like a fever dream. It sounds utterly gibberish and makes absolutely no sense.

However, if you do take the time to properly listen, you might notice there are actually words derived from ACTUAL words.

Dubbed as the “banana” language, the Minion language came from the animated movie Despicable Me, where its creator strings multiple words from different languages together to form a sentence.

The commonly used language in the Minion language includes:

  • Spanish
  • Indonesian
  • Malay
  • Japanese
  • Italian

Paired alongside their annoyingly cute voice, the language is highly infectious and charming, making it a smart way to make casual small talk more fun.

The Minion Language With Added Malaysian Flavour

Ok, Duolingo time! Learning the Minion language is pretty much impossible unless you use the Minion translator.

But, for entertainment purposes, we’ve actually come up with some lines that are uniquely Malaysian in the Minion language. It’s pretty good fun and great to lighten the mood be it in a work or casual setting.

1. “What Do You Want to Eat?” – Whaaat? batooay to quer da ads?

Arguably, the most asked question among Malaysians ever.

Having a courteous culture also means being nice and asking colleagues and family members first what they want to eat.

In return, we’ll often get the ‘I don’t know” reply because courtesy is reciprocal, delaying breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2. “Which Cinema to Watch Movie?” – Tika cinema da copa ore?

We all know Malaysians have a strong cinema culture. Fortunately for us, we are blessed with a multitude of shopping malls and most of them have a cinema ready for us.

And since we’re all spoilt for choice, after deciding on a movie, the next step is to decide which cinema to go to.

To be honest, it’s not that difficult a choice, especially if you want to watch fun movies like Minions. TGV Cinemas is ALWAYS the right choice.

Why? Well, take a look at what they’ve done and are doing for super fun movies:

Aside from movies and fun merchandise, TGV Cinemas is always hosting birthday parties and events for kids.

3. “Wah, Today’s Weather is Damn Hot!” – Wah, dad’s cora tis damn meatball!

Death, taxes and Malaysian heat.

It’s a common occurrence where we take a shower and after 15 minutes, we find ourselves drenched in sweat.

There’s a reason why we see so many people carrying handheld fans wherever they are outdoors. Additionally, we’re also one of the largest consumers of AC, so that speaks volumes.

It’s still better than having to fear natural disasters, though!

4. “When is The Next Public Holiday?” – Kan tis ta rod gorave refvig?

Be it Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali or Christmas – we celebrate them all here in Malaysia.

On a personal level, even if you’re not celebrating, you get to enjoy the day off from work, so employees LOVE the rest.

So, the question that is always asked when a holiday is over is, when is the next one!

5. “Nice to Eat or Not?” – Wed da ads sif non?

Food, food and food. As Malaysians, we love our food, and since most of us come from different walks of life, the cuisines are endless.

When we see a friend or colleague outside our culture consuming something we haven’t seen, the first thing that comes out of our mouth is – “Is it good, ah?”

It’s actually a really nice gesture as we open our doors – or mouths- to different cultures here in Malaysia.
