TLDR: DC Studios is leaning heavily into horror with Clayface. James Gunn recently shared a disturbing Japanese poster for the upcoming DCU movie, offering another glimpse at its darker approach to the iconic Batman villain.

Clayface Embraces Body Horror
Rather than presenting Clayface as a traditional comic book movie, the new artwork positions the film firmly within the body horror genre.
The poster depicts Matt Hagen upside down as his hand stretches and pulls at the skin across his face. Combined with a grainy visual texture and striking red and white Japanese typography, the artwork evokes the unsettling atmosphere associated with Japanese horror cinema.

The Japanese Poster Reveals More About The Tragic Story
The Japanese promotional material also reveals more about Matt Hagen’s tragic transformation. Once a promising Hollywood star, Hagen loses his appearance following an accident, threatening the fame and career he had built.
The Clayface Japanese poster is shown below:

Desperate to return to the spotlight, he turns to a forbidden treatment. Instead of restoring his former life, the procedure begins transforming both his body and mind into something increasingly monstrous.
DC Studios is positioning Clayface as a psychological thriller and horror story rather than a conventional supervillain origin movie. The transformation of Matt Hagen appears set to drive the film’s horror as he gradually loses control over his body and identity.
