TLDR: Pixar is reportedly developing a third installment in the beloved Monsters, Inc. franchise.

Looking Back at the Monsters, Inc. Franchise
The original Monsters, Inc. was released in 2001 and directed by Pete Docter, who now serves as Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer.
The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning approximately $528.7 million worldwide. It was a refreshing take on monsters, where they are usually depicted as gruesome and evil by the mainstream media.
The franchise later expanded with the prequel Monsters University in 2013, which explored the early friendship between Mike and Sully during their college years.
Other Pixar Projects in Development
Alongside the new Monsters, Inc. film, Pixar has several major projects currently in development.
These include Toy Story 5, which is widely expected to be a major blockbuster, and Incredibles 3, scheduled for release in 2028.
The studio is also working on a sequel to Coco, expected to arrive in 2029.
In addition to franchise sequels, Pixar is developing its first original musical and a feature film titled Ono Ghost Market, which is inspired by Asian myths about supernatural marketplaces.
