Hollywood’s nostalgia wave continues with a brand-new live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe, set to arrive in cinemas on Jun 5.

The Origins of The Master of the Universe Franchise

Masters of the Universe began as a Mattel toyline in the early 1980s before rapidly expanding into comics, animated series, and pop culture history. The franchise became known for blending sword-and-sorcery fantasy with science fiction and superhero storytelling, creating a world where advanced technology and magic coexist.

What The Master of the Universe Story is Going to Be About

Set on the planet Eternia, the story revolves around the eternal conflict between good and evil. Prince Adam, the son of King Randor and Queen Marlena, possesses the legendary Sword of Power.

By declaring “By the Power of Grayskull, I have the power,” he transforms into He-Man, the most powerful warrior in the universe, secretly defending Eternia from the evil Skeletor.

The Heroes and Cast for The Master of the Universe

He-Man leads the Heroic Warriors, also known as the Masters of the Universe. The team includes Man-at-Arms, played by Idris Elba, Teela, portrayed by Camila Mendes, Roboto, played by Kristen Wiig, as well as characters such as Fisto, Battle Cat, and the Sorceress, portrayed by Morena Baccarin.

Notably absent from the film are Princess Adora, also known as She-Ra, and the mysterious Orko, both of whom may be saved for future installments.

Skeletor Will Return in The Masters of the Universe

Skeletor returns as He-Man’s greatest enemy. Earlier versions portrayed him as a demonic figure, while later stories revealed him to be Keldor, the half-brother of King Randor who was denied the throne of Eternia.

Consumed by jealousy and transformed by a horrific accident, Skeletor rises as a ruthless tyrant.

In the new film, Skeletor has seized control of Eternia and is joined by Evil-Lyn, played by Allison Brie, along with Trap Jaw and other villains serving the Horde under the even more dangerous Hordak, who could potentially set up future sequels.
