TLDR: Han Ji-sung, rapper for K-pop group Stray Kids, spent several years of his childhood in Malaysia before pursuing his dreams in South Korea.
The 20-year-old Incheon-born artist moved to Malaysia when he was around eight or nine years old, living in several Selangor towns, including Subang, Cheras, and Ampang.
He has also displayed his Malay language proficiency – putting some of us Malaysians to shame!
Malaysian Education and Fond Memories
During his time in Ampang, Han attended Fairview International School for six years before returning to South Korea.
X/Twitter users have also expressed their opinions on Han’s admiration of the Malaysian culture.

Despite leaving Malaysia years ago, Han has expressed his desire to visit the country again and frequently mentions missing Malaysian food—particularly bak kut teh and mangosteen.
“I used to live in Malaysia and when I was there, I really loved mangosteen,” he said during a Korean television programme.
Favorite Malaysian Experiences
At a fan meeting, Han shared more about his Malaysian experience:
- His love for roti canai and frequent visits to mamak stalls in Ampang
- KLCC is his favorite place to visit
- Mid Valley is his preferred shopping destination
Other Korean Stars with Malaysian Connections
Han isn’t the only Korean celebrity with Malaysian ties. Actor Seo Kang-joon from the drama Cheese in the Trap also lived in Malaysia, though for just over a year—considerably shorter than Han’s stay.
Also, TGV Cinemas are constantly hosting IMAX screening concert performances and sometimes even live-viewing experiences of these events!
