3. Top Gun Maverick – May 2022

This legendary movie was filmed almost entirely with IMAX cameras mounted on actual fighter jets with real actors inside, and you’ll feel every single second of that choice.

With IMAX, you get up to 26% more picture than standard formats. When Maverick pulls into a steep climb or banks hard through a canyon, the expanded frame pulls you into the cockpit. The rumble of jet engines through IMAX sound systems becomes physical.

People left cinemas calling it one of the most visceral cinematic experiences in years, and they weren’t exaggerating for once.

4. F1: The Movie – Jun 2025

Many praised Sinners for its originality, but one could say the secret ingredient is the combination of immense storytelling and IMAX.

It’s a movie that made everyone remember why IMAX exists.

Coogler shot it with IMAX 15/65mm cameras and Ultra Panavision 70 lenses, creating that super-wide image that swallows you whole.

When you watch it in IMAX 70MM, you’re seeing colours and shadows that simply don’t translate to your living room. The sound design matters too—Ludwig Göransson’s score hits differently when it’s rumbling through an IMAX system.

It’s basically something you can NEVER experience outside of a cinema.

6. Captain America: Civil War – May 2016

With so much incentive to watch Ne Zha 2 on the big screens, we can see why it broke into the list of the highest-grossing films of that year.

Around 55% of screenings were in 3D, which actually works here as the depth doesn’t feel gimmicky, especially when dragons are breaking out of giant cauldrons.

IMAX has the ability to turn animated films into pure magic. Through ultra-bright laser projectors, they unleash stunning colour depth and vivid details you rarely see elsewhere.

8. Deadpool And Wolverine – Jul 2024

10. Malbatt Misi Bakara – Aug 2023

You probably haven’t heard this story before, and that’s exactly why it matters.

Malbatt: Misi Bakara follows 19 Malaysian soldiers from the Royal Malay Regiment who rescued 70 trapped US Rangers during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu.

Think Black Hawk Down, just from a completely different angle.

This became the first Malaysian film ever shown in IMAX, which feels like a quiet flex that speaks volumes.

Director Adrian Teh specifically remastered the film for the format after realising the original American version left out an entire rescue mission.

The IMAX treatment makes perfect sense here as you will be getting real explosions (minimal CGI touch-ups), close-quarters combat in armoured Condor vehicles, and chaotic street warfare.

Local audiences responded well to seeing a war film that wasn’t the usual Hollywood perspective, especially in a format typically reserved for blockbuster franchises.
